The drop off day for all art is Friday, November 1st. Unless you have made prior arrangements with Heritage Centre staff, you need to bring your art work in by that day.
The opening night of the Red Lake Art Show is Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 6PM. Artists do not have to be present, however, it would be nice if they were.

Valerie's love affair with the natural world, in all its dynamic complexity and panoramic beauty, continues to be the main source of inspiration informing her art. In a departure from strictly Nature portraits, the human portraits highlighted in this year's exhibit combine representational depictions with the abstract--the mundane and the sublime. They explore personal, emotional, and universal themes. They showcase her love of colour and willingness to embrace the challenges presented by a variety of mediums, as well as her early passions and more recent influences. These include National Geographic depictions of galaxies; science-fair projects exploring the heavens; poems and stories of mythological heroes immortalized in constellations; a lifetime fascination with astronomy and star-gazing; the art of Jasyn Lucas and Jackie Traverse (Indigenous artists); Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night"; and Michaelangelo's "Creation of Adam." Valerie and husband Vaughn make their home in Red Lake, Ontario. x

Tianna Tarantino is an Italian-Canadian artist primarily focused on surrealism using a diverse range of mediums, including acrylic paint, oil paint, watercolour and pencil. From an early age, Tianna was always drawing with a pencil in hand and paper in front of her. Her mother’s office and kitchen were adorned with her original drawings, which covered the walls as she was growing up. Although she has taken a few art courses at Red Lake District High School (RLDHS), Tianna considers herself self-taught. Her work delves into psychological relationship, fantasies, distorted nature and alternative human conditions. Through her use of various paints and pencils, she creates evocative landscapes, abstract compositions and human portraits. Tianna’s work has been featured at the Red Lake Hospital (2023) and the Red Lake Regional Heritage Centre during the 2022 Red Lake schools spring art show. She is eager to participate in future exhibitions and currently minors in visual arts at the University of Alberta where she hopes to discover new influences to enhance her artistic development. Tianna’s goals include exploring opportunities to sell her works and taking on commissions for those interested in original pieces. |
