Welcome to the 2023 Red Lake Art Show
Red Lake may be a small isolated community in Northwestern Ontario, but it has an amazing array of artistic individuals. We are excited to show you a whole new crop of artists who are submitting art for the first time. Don't worry, many of your perennial favourites are showcasing their talents as well.
Open from November 16 until December 20th, the Red Lake Art Show features over 15 local artists. You also have a chance to nominate your favourite piece of artwork by filling out a ballot (Name of the artist and name of their art work), and putting it into the glass bowl provided. Ballots will be accepted until December 20th and winner will be announced in early January. We hope you will drop by and see just how much the amazing artists of Red Lake have to offer! |

Valerie Blab Valerie grew up in rural Manitoba appreciating the panoramic expanses and “Big Sky” of the prairie. Though few opportunities existed for formal art training, drawing and painting became a favourite pastime. While working towards a B.A. Honours degree in French at the University of Manitoba, she met and married her husband. They moved a lot in the early years predominantly in Northwestern Ontario, settling eventually in Red Lake, where she finds the rugged beauty of the Canadian Shield deeply inspiring. Valerie's love affair with the natural world, in all its dynamic complexity and panoramic beauty, continues to be the main source of inspiration informing her art. |

Carol Horne Carol has been sewing and quilting for 50 plus years. She was taught to sew and quilt by her mother, took Home Economics in high school and did many sewing projects in 4H Club. Her mother, Helen, was an award-winning quilter at many fall fairs and quilt exhibitions in southwestern Ontario. Enid Carlson Enid is an avid weaver since 2018. She has always been a fiber/fabric enthusiast (sewing, knitting, needlework, quilting), but weaving was her ultimate goal. Having retired, Enid has time to explore and experiment. She was originally inspired by Scottish weavers that she met on a visit when she was 16. Now she is most inspired by traditional Scandinavian weaving, which she puts her own spin on. She enjoys working with colours and using high quality wool, alpaca, silk, and cotton. She weaves on a 4 shaft Leclerc loom built in Quebec. Many days of work go into each piece. First, she researches traditional fibers and designs, which are then interpreted and designed on the computer. Next, Enid takes several steps to prepare the loom. Only then, can she start weaving. Enid enjoys combining colours with each other in unique and unexpected ways. She continues to experiment and learn! x
