Red Lake District Souvenir Record by Daniel Fréval
In the mid-1960s, Daniel Fréval, a teacher from France, came to Red Lake to teach French at the Red Lake District High School. Fréval fell in love with the area and made many friends throughout the community. During his free time he researched, produced and narrated a 45 rpm documentary record entitled A Souvenir-Record of the Red Lake District. The project involved capturing live recordings of the many sounds of Red Lake, from moose calls to drilling underground. Local residents purchased the record and played it on their record players. The Heritage Centre recently converted the record to a digital file, so that everyone can enjoy this unique piece of local history. Listen to the recording below: |
