how we operate

Strategic and Operating Plan - Executive Summary

Mission

Working in partnership with the Municipality of Red Lake, the community of Red Lake and key stakeholders, the RLRHC strives to be a leader in preserving, promoting and celebrating the region’s natural and cultural heritage. This mission is fulfilled through:
  • Ensuring that the community of Red Lake’s ongoing history is documented and represented through exhibitions, research, art and events.
  • Creating an environment of exploration, where education and growth bring together communities and provide opportunities for sharing knowledge and experiences.
  • Together with community representatives, provide opportunities to strengthen Red Lake’s positive identity through exhibits, events, programming and performances.

Principles
The RLRHC operates by demonstrating the following principles:
  • Inclusion: many cultural and interest groups are represented in the Centre. Stories are told from various perspectives and voices.
  • Participation: the Heritage Centre is an active participant in cultural tourism initiatives and educational projects.
  • A Welcoming Destination: The Heritage Centre is a safe, welcoming, and comfortable destination and meeting place for local residents and visitors.
  • Respectful: Respect for people, visitors, employees, volunteers, and partners is a priority at all times.

Key Objectives
Create and maintain financial viability by:
  • Increasing and diversifying attendance and revenue sources;
  • Reducing expenditures by cost-sharing with other organizations whenever feasible;
  • Seeking sponsorships and donations for special projects and equipment;
  • Using modern technology to increase productivity and efficiency.

Increase appreciation and understanding of the area’s heritage by:
  • Developing innovative exhibitions and programs that reflect Red Lake’s history, culture, and unique identity;
  • Collaborating with other cultural institutions in presenting provincial, national, and international online and traveling exhibitions;
  • Offering school programs that increase the community’s pride in its heritage.
