Volunteering

Become a volunteer at the Red Lake Regional Heritage Centre today. Take part in meaningful activities that shape our community. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to share your knowledge, contribute to exhibitions, research, artifact preservation, cataloguing, construction, programming, and so much more!

Here are some examples of some projects you could be involved with:

Exhibitions
  • Permanent Display
Secure/sew items in the pullout drawers in order to provide a safe display environment for objects
Provide tours
 
  • Northern Nature Trading Experience
Restock the rocks, minerals, shells
Set up display boxes of butterflies (pinning)
Assist with the Northern Nature Trading Experience (depending on relevant specialty)
 
Special Events
  • Present a lecture
  • Welcome visitors
  • Help in the set-up and dismantling of an event
  • Teaching workshops according to special talent/knowledge (i.e. gardening)
Marketing
  • Distribute marketing materials
  • Spread the message about projects – verbally and online
  • Prepare new stock for sale in gift shop
  • Recruit new volunteers
Collections
  • Sort the newspapers in chronological order, providing conservation-friendly storage for the items
  • Inventory of framed objects in storage.  Photograph items, as needed.
  • Inventory of collections and numbering of storage shelves
  • Working with Centre staff, create a storage area for oversized artifacts
Other
  • Sort our reference books and create a spreadsheet indicating title, author and location.
  • Organize the workshop area. Evaluate the tools to determine their importance, use, and effectiveness.
  • Using the Heritage Centre’s equipment, set up a photography area in the back room
  • Design and create new hanging signage
  • Create a storage area for the folding tables
