Miles Red Lake Gold Mines
Non-producing
Miles Red Lake Gold Mines was an exploration project on the west end of Red Lake, near Middle Bay. Cardinal Gold Mines first worked the six claims in 1934 before they were taken over by Middle Bay Mines in 1936. Middle Bay Mines continued exploration on the property, performing 610 metres (2,001 feet) of diamond drilling. In 1945 Miles Red Lake Gold Mines acquired the claims and over the next three years proceeded to complete 1,218 metres (3,996 feet) of surface diamond drilling, sinking a two level 91-metre (298-foot) shaft and 610 metres (2,001 feet) of underground drilling. Unfortunately for Miles Red Lake Gold Mines, underground drilling did not confirm the gold values surface exploration indicated, and work ceased.
Since 1948, Cochenour-Willans Gold Mines, Goldcorp, Halo Resources and Hemlo Gold Mines have done exploration work on the site.
