My artwork takes its inspiration from the equilibrium and the importance of keeping it balanced. Throughout my life, educating myself on environmental and global issues has been one of my top priorities. Fish wildlife is often put at risk by human-caused overfishing or over harvesting. Species go extinct, then, in turn, the ecosystem is thrown out of balance, and more species are put at risk, and the cycle continues. I’ve created this piece to convey balance necessary in the ecosystem.
I chose to focus on lake trout for this project because it’s an important fish to the Red Lake area. The trout fish is not only important to the ecosystem, but it is culturally important, as well. I wanted to portray how wildlife is not only beneficial to the ecosystem in general, but that it is also very important to people and their traditions, such as with the Aboriginal Peoples of Red Lake.
